1D Updates and More!

Math Tests:
Students brought home Module 1 Math tests on Monday.  There is a stamp requesting for parents to review with their child and sign and return to school by Friday.  Thank you in advance!  We have received most of these tests signed :)

Math Workbook:
First Graders have begun a new math unit (module 2) this week.  Students were able to take home their module 1 workbooks on Monday to keep.  We did not complete ALL the pages, so there are some extra practice and word problems (Application) to extend learning at home.

Dolch Sight Word Lists:
Several parents have asked about why the list of words that were in their child's folder disappeared.  I apologize for any confusion about this.  Ms. Bruno collected all of the original lists so that she could begin reassessing students to determine mastery on those lists.  As Ms. Bruno finished the assessments, she sent home new lists.  We will continue this process.

Eagle’s Nest
As you know, we have been announcing shoutouts and Golden G during our weekly Eagle’s Nest. The Lower School has decided to move shoutouts into the classroom in order to recognize the core values in an authentic, meaningful and timely way. In addition, any “above and beyond” behaviors will be recognized in the Eagle’s Nest. We know that this change will give more effective feedback to students and help inspire our whole community.

1D Swimming Classes
- Next Tuesday, 1D will have their first swim class during PE! Adriana is helping to coordinate a volunteer for each of our swim classes to help carry the bags of swimming gear from 1D to the Athletics Center. Also, the volunteers will help the girls get changed and make sure they do NOT leave personal items in the locker room. One of the PE coaches will help the boys.
- Please send the swimming gear in a separate bag from the back pack, labeled, with FIRST/LAST NAMES, GRADE, and TEACHER. This "swim bag" can be transported back and forth from school in the backpack.
- In the swim bag, students should have their bathing suit, goggles, swimming cap, flip flops and a towel.
- Girls' swimsuits should be a one piece, please. Also, girls will need a hair tie to pull back their hair as needed before putting on the cap. From past experience, leggings for girls are difficult to put back on after the swim class, so that would be helpful to avoid if at all possible.
- Please talk with your child about being mindful of checking for all of their things before leaving the locker room each time. I will be helping down their with Ms. Bruno at least for the first day or so. I have meetings during this time some days. The routine will get better with practice. They will have a BLAST!!

Reader's Theater

Last week students prepared for Friday's Reader's Theater presentations.
They read and REread at home and at school in small groups to practice their "part".
Rereading familiar texts is a strategy to improve students' oral reading fluency. This allows them to focus attention on smoothing out their voices and adding expression to their reading.
It's also good practice to listen to other readers too!
