Curriculum Update
Literacy- Students are learning to write book reviews. They are working on using complete sentences with “sparkling” vocabulary. Also, they are expanding on their knowledge of what makes a strong introduction and conclusion for an opinion piece. While reading, students are focusing on understanding the words they are reading. By thinking about the words students can determine not only what is happening in the story, but whether or not a certain word makes sense. In grammar, students are beginning to explore past tense words.
Math- Students have begun module 4 in the Eureka program. They are using the place value chart to record and name tens and ones within a two-digit number. They are writing and interpreting two-digit numbers as addition sentences that combine tens and ones. Students will identify 10 more, 10 less, 1 more, 1 less than a 2-digit number.
Science- As their final project in this Science Unit are students working in groups in order to create and build a device that communicates a message using light and/or sound. The device was created to help solve a school problem appointed by the first graders. (The problem varied from class to class: noise level in the cafeteria, students running in the hallway, inappropriate behavior when walking in line). The focus of this NGSS Science Unit is for students to apply what they learned and use engineering practices in order to plan and carry out investigations to test solutions to problems.
Portuguese - Continuamos nossos estudos de rimas a partir da leitura de livros da autora Eva Furnari. Também estamos praticando a leitura com Contos de Repetição e Acumulativos. Na escrita, seguimos escrevendo relatos sobre nossos fins de semana e pequenos momentos.
